A fully loaded fuel tanker caught fire near Wollongong this morning. the truck driver escaped the injury.
Friday, January 4, 2019, around 8:40, the tanker caught fire after the driver stopped on the side of the M1 motorway near the Figtree access ramp.
The driver, aged 44 and the only occupant, was able to escape the vehicle.
The firefighting operation continues. Residents of neighboring houses are requested to leave as a precautionary measure. Police continue to investigate the events that led to the fire.
