A 22-year-old employee has been fatally attacked by an escaped lion on Sunday according to North Carolina Conservators Center.

Alexandra Black of New Palestine, Indiana was cleaning the animal's enclosure along with a team led by a professionally trained animal keeper when the lion escaped a locked space and quickly killed the young worker.

The victim had only been working at the Conservators center for 10 days before the fatal incident. She was an Indiana University Bloomington graduate with a bachelor degree in Animal Behavior. Her dream was to become a zookeeper.

The victim had previously worked, unpaid, at many animal-related ventures, and recently at Wolf Park in Battleground, Indiana.

Officials shot dead the lion to retrieve Black's body after failing to tranquilize him.
