St. Charles man genocided his girlfriend's whole family.

the man who has killed his girlfriend, her two children, and her mother; made his first court appearance Monday.

Kate Kasten, a 39-year-old mother of two, had moved to St. Charles, Mo., about a year ago, a few months after losing her husband to a long battle with cancer.

she started living with her two children daughter Zoe, 8; son Jon, 10, and her divorced mother, Jane Moeckel, 61, when this shocking fate blew the life of the whole family.

Police were called to the scene of an active shooting in the 100 block of Whetstone at 11:55 p.m. Friday. Lt. Wilkison of the St. Charles Police Department said the 911 dispatcher heard gunshots and sounds of people screaming during the call.

St. Charles police confirmed that three people were shot and killed at the home on Whetstone Friday and a fourth victim later died at the hospital from gunshot wounds sustained at the home.

“It was a gruesome, gruesome scene,” St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar said Saturday.

Richard Darren Emery, of St. Charles, was charged with 15 crimes in a crime spree that police say included the murder of his girlfriend, her two children and her mother; a stabbing during an attempted carjacking; and a shootout with police.

Following an all-night search, police arrested Richard Darren Emery, 46. He was charged Saturday with 15 crimes, including murder in the first degree, armed criminal action, assault in the first degree and attempted robbery in the first degree.

The case was assigned to St. Charles Associate Circuit Judge Terry Cundiff. The next hearing was set for Jan. 8 at 9 a.m.
