A California teen called 911 on Friday afternoon to report that his father has been gunned down before vanishing in woods for the next 30 hours, authorities said.
15-year-old Jack Gershman was found safe on Saturday in a Tahoe National Forest remote area hiding from the shooter that killed his dad Ari Gershman, 45, hours earlier. The same suspect had shot two other hikers but they survived the injuries.
Gershman was a pulmonary doctor and father of three children, ages 16, 15, and 10. He was found dead at the scene: “He was an avid bicyclist, a vegetarian, an outdoorsman, a devoted and loving father, and fantastic friend,” his GoFundMe page reads.
The suspect who has not been identified was arrested Saturday while driving an all-terrain vehicle following a perilous chase down Saddleback Road.
