During his arraignment on Tuesday, a Pennsylvania protester told the judge that he has tested positive for the coronavirus before taking part in a violent demonstration in Lancaster.
22-year-old Julio V.Torres was charged with aggravated assault, rioting and resisting arrest over his participation in a looting event during which he threw “harmful objects” at cops, hurled a barricade into the street and directed the 250-person mob targeting a police station.
“He has placed other people at risk,” Judge David Ashworth said of the suspect who didn’t wear a mask. “If it’s all made up on his part, then it is. All we can do is act on his word. He has told a number of officials now that he is positive.”
Torres also said that he was asked to self-quarantine but still attended the protest.
