New York news, US news.

Andrew Cuomo, New York governor, said that the Mid-Hudson region, which includes Westchester County, recorded a decrease in the number of coronavirus-related deaths and is close to reopening.

Cuomo said during a news briefing that the only issue is that traces should be trained. The region still needs to train 857 contact tracers and if they do, they can reopen on Tuesday.

The governor said that the number of deaths decreased on Long Island too, adding that if it keeps decreasing, and the contract tracing comes online, the region may open by Wednesday.

Cuomo showed pictures of New York's Jones Beach Friday, as the beaches opened this Memorial Day weekend.

“People were great, they’re doing what they're supposed to do and I thank them very much," Cuomo said.
