A Florida mother had asked a judge to give her full custody of her son amid the coronavirus pandemic citing the high risk of contamination that his dad presents for him due to his work as a first responder.

Tabatha Sams is seeking the custody of Dawson Thilmony until the end of the emergency state in Florida during which Dawson’s father, Stephen Thilmony, works in the front lines permanently exposed to COVID-19 infected patients. Stephen’s fiancé also works as an emergency room nurse.

“As COVID-19 has spread throughout the United States, medical professionals and first responders have been subjected to coronavirus at a higher rate, due to their increased exposure to individuals testing positives for the virus,” Sams told the court.
