4-year-old dies after discharging gun while adult relatives gathered upstairs

Police are investigating an accidental shooting that has occurred inside a south suburban house in Thornton which ultimately cost the life of a 4-year-old boy at a local hospital Thursday.

According to Thornton Police Chief Glenn Beckman, the shooting took place in the basement of a house located in the first block of Blackhawk Drive shortly before 8:40 p.m. Upon arrival, paramedics found the toddler, later identified as Amir Jennings-Green, unconscious and bleeding from a bullet that grazed his head. He was rushed to Ingalls Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. At least, five kids were inside the house where the shooting unfolded while adult relatives were upstairs.
