Alabama authorities are investigating after the grisly finding made by a worker cutting the lawn in a park on Tuesday.
The lawn cutter called police to report a decomposing body he found while working off of the 4200 block of Turnin Drive, near Lakeshore Parkway in Bessemer. Lt. Christian Clemons said that the residents dumped their garbage there and that the body was found under an old mattress, partially wrapped and decomposed beyond recognition. The County’s Coroner is working to identify the body.
Two women have been found dead earlier this year in the area. Paighton Houston who died from an accidental drug overdose and Karen Joyce Scott whose murder remains unsolved. Bessemer police can be contacted at 205-425-2411.
