NYPD cop takes own life inside car near Queens park

A New York Police Department officer took his own life Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The unidentified 26-year-old cop was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a vehicle in Rosedale near Brookville Park at 12:05 p.m.

  • First responders pronounced the officer dead at the scene. The officer was reportedly a Queens resident who joined the force four years ago and had been working in an Upper Manhattan precinct.

    “Today, we, as a Department, find ourselves heartbroken again with the tragic loss of one of our members,” Police Commissioner Keechant Sweell said Friday night.

    “You are never alone, help is always available.”
