Illinois authorities said Thursday that a human body found dead in a river earlier this month belonged to a missing State University student.
Jelani “J.J” Day, 25-year-old, was last seen on August 24 when he visited a Bloomington cannabis store at around 9:12 a.m.
His abandoned car was located in woods near the Illinois Valley YMCA two days later while his body was spotted in the Illinois River on Sept. 4.
“Currently, the cause of death is unknown, pending further investigation and toxicology testing,” Bloomington Police said.
The decedent had just started his second graduate semester at ISU where he studied speech pathology in the hopes of becoming a doctor “so that his mom would never have to work again.”
