Georgetown, Washington authorities are investigating after the grisly discovery of a human body in a local canal Friday afternoon.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department Vito Maggiolo said that rescuers rushed to the C&O Canal at around 2:30 p.m. over a report of a deceased person in waters.
Once there, they pronounced the person dead and pulled the body out of the canal between 33rd and 34th Streets NW.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department blocked the streets and set up a tent on the towpath of a mule bridge as they gathered evidence.
The body was moved to a vehicle parked in the nearby Francis Scott Key Park.
An eyewitness said that the body appeared to be a white man but officials did not release further information about the decedent.
