South Carolina suspect evades police, leaves behind backpack with baby alligator inside

Looking for a criminal with a lengthy rap sheet, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office investigators shared information about an unusual finding in his backpack.

In a Facebook post on the BCSO’s page “WantEmWednesday”, authorities requested the South Carolina community’s help to located 48-year-old Tracy Lee Crane.

Calling the incident involving Crane a “great catch,” the post said that Crane fled officers when they tried to pull him over for a “vehicle registration violation.”

“Crane continued driving until his vehicle got stuck on a woodpile and then he fled from the traffic stop,” the post added.

  • Crane left behind his cell phone and a backpack. Inside the small bag, officers discovered a 2.5 feet baby alligator.

    “Deputies discovered a baby alligator inside of a bookbag! After a short bonding moment, Wally the Baby Gator was safely relocated with the help of the State Department of Natural Resources.”

    The Police post added that Crane has a lengthy rap sheet including nine arrests over drug possession and driving offenses.

    “Possession of an alligator without a license should hopefully keep him behind bars,” a comment read while another suggested that “maybe it was his service gator.”
