Skeletal remains found in Oklahoma isolated area identified as missing pregnant nurse

McAlester news, Oklahoma news.

It took authorities over a year to positively identify skeletal remains that have been discovered in an isolated area of McAlester as a missing pregnant nurse who had vanished in 2017.

On January 20 of that year, 40-year-old Holly Cantrell was last seen leaving her work at the McAlester Regional Health Clinic during lunch break. In 2018, the Pittsburg County Sheriff announced the finding of skeletal remains near the Cardinal Point Recreation Area on an isolated peninsula. The remains were sent to the University of North Texas for identification.

Now that the remains were identified as Cantrell’s, investigators are treating the death as a homicide: “We don’t have a lot of leads,” Sheriff Chris Morris said. “We will work toward making an arrest to bring justice for the family.”
