14 Americans test positive for coronavirus after evacuation from quarantined cruise ship

Fourteen Americans have tested positive for the novel coronavirus that has claimed nearly 1,800 lives in a growing outbreak in China, they who were among the hundreds evacuated from a quarantined cruise ship off Yokohama, Japan, on Sunday.

Early Monday, More than 300 U.S. citizens and their family members who had been passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship were taken off the vessel and transported back to the United States on two reserved flights that landed at the Travis Air Force Base in California and the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

“Passengers that develop symptoms in flight and those with positive test results will remain isolated on the flights and will be transported to an appropriate location for continued isolation and care,” said a State Department spokesman.
