Two prisoners died in California prison within couple of days

According to California officials, a death row inmate was pronounced dead at a medical facility on February 14 just one day after a 21-year-old prisoner was beaten to death at the Calipatria State Prison.

At a press conference, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed that John Abel, 75-year-old, who has gotten a death penalty sentence for the shooting death of a man on Jan. 4, 1991 amid a robbery. The unidentified victim had just withdrawn $20,000 from a bank in Orange County. Foul play was not suspected in Abel’s death.

On Friday, at about 3 p.m., prison staff found Joseph Martinez bleeding from several injuries in his chest and back after being attacked by two prisoners. He was pronounced dead later that same day.
