A Virginia teen has been apprehended in North Carolina a day after he shot his mother and younger brother to death and tried to kill his father, police said.

Levi Norwood, 17-year-old, has been wanted for murdering his 34-year-old mother, Jennifer Norwood, and his 6-year-old brother, Wyatt Norwood at the family home in the 12800 block of Elk Run Road on Friday. The suspect’s father, Joshua Norwood, told investigators that he returned home at about 6 p.m. to find the victims’ bodies on the ground.

The father also said that Levi opened fire at him as well but he survived his injuries. When officers arrived at the scene, Levi was still at the scene before he managed to steal a car and escape. He was arrested Saturday at about 5:45 p.m. when an N.C. store owner reported a shoplifting incident.
