Brunswick news, New Jersey news.

A New Jersey teenage boy has lost his life Wednesday after he fell through an icy pond while playing with his friends, according to officials.

The tragedy occurred shortly before 5 p.m. when the 13-year-old boy was playing on the frozen pond near Civic Center Drive in East Brunswick with two other teens before they fell in, reports said.

The boy drowned while his friends managed to pull themselves out of the pond.

Deputies tried unsuccessfully to rescue the teen by forming a human chain and wading into the water “but he slipped under the ice before they could reach him.” He was pulled out by firefighters who joined deputies at the scene.

The unidentified victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
