Birmingham's mayor went door-to-door, asking people to help solve a shooting

Randall Woodfin, Birmingham's mayor, was apparently so outraged by a Monday triple shooting that he went door-to-door on a rainy night, asking the residents of the Smithfield public housing community to help solve the crime.

Birmingham Police said Monday night that one woman was killed, and two others hospitalized. Their identities were not revealed to the public.

City councilors and members of the Birmingham Police Department joined the mayor.

Residents were deeply saddened by the incident, with some of them ducking for cover on the floor of their homes when the shooting happened. Woodfin said that the city had surpassed 100 homicides in 2018: "We all should be outraged. None of us have the opportunity or the luxury to be numb to these type of things and just go about our day."
