A New Mexico man has been ordered to serve 207 months behind bars for firearms and drug offenses that unfolded during a chase and shooting with police in 2017.

32-year-old Jose Manuel Diaz-Montelongo received his sentence on Monday for discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The charges stemmed from a September 2017 incident when Diaz-Montelongo led officers on a high-speed chase before barricading himself inside his car for two hours. He tried to hide in a shooting range where he fired at cops with an assault rifle.

Upon his arrest, authorities found two handguns, the assault rifle and about 54 grams of methamphetamine. The suspect had pleaded guilty to the charges in February 2018.
