A South Carolina hunter has been shot while making his way through the woods after his buddies mistook him for a deer, officials said.
The incident occurred in the woods of Westminster on Thursday at around 8 a.m. The hunter, who has not been identified, left his group and stepped down their stand, or the platform that elevated them from the land without telling them. He was walking on his own in the woods when one of his friends shot him, mistaking him for a deer, local authorities said.
The bullet had passed through the hunter's upper body and it was necessary to undergo surgery in order to remove it.
No charges have been filed in connection to this incident as of Friday.
