Philadelphia news, Pennsylvania news.

The father of an 11-month-old son from Philadelphia has been charged with endangering a child, prosecutors said.

The young child, Yaseem Munir Jenkins, was shot dead four times, one of them at the head, and then taken to hospital in critical condition on 19 October.

Authorities said the boy was in the back of a car with his father, Nafes Monroe, his mother-in-law and another man when gunshots were fired. They said Monroe used his son as a human shield to thwart a potential drug dealer.

Investigators said he drove his son who was shot in a house before taking him to the hospital. Voci said that Monroe then "dropped off his child in the hospital and never looked back."

On Tuesday, the child was still fighting for his life.

A suspect has been arrested but no charges have yet been filed.
