The father of a black woman fatally wounded by a white policeman in Fort Worth, Texas, died of a heart attack, according to reports.
The officer was charged with murder when Atatiana Jefferson, 28, was shot dead on October 12 - a case that caught the country's attention.
A family spokesman said his father, Marquis Jefferson, died Saturday in a Dallas hospital, reported Fox 4 Dallas. He had been hospitalized the night before.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Jefferson was 58 years old and that the cause of his death was a heart attack.
Spokesman Bruce Carter said Jefferson was very stressed since the murder of his daughter, Fox 4 reported. Carter said Jefferson was fighting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which makes breathing difficult.
The accused officer, Aaron Dean, resigned from the force after his arrest.
