Professor dismembers student's body, tries to suicide while carrying backpack with her arms

A Russian professor has been busted moments before committing suicide after he killed his student/girlfriend and dismembered her body.

Oleg Sokolov, 63, a Saint Petersburg State University professor was arrested on Saturday at the Moika River with the arms of the 24-year-old victim in his backpack. His arrest came after he fell in the river while impaired.

Police found the rest of the woman's remains at Sokolov's home. During questioning, he told investigators that he killed her amid a heated argument and then cut off her head, arms, and legs.

Sokolov was also a member of France's Institute of Social Science, Economics and Politics. In a statement, the institute said: "We could never imagine that he could commit such an odious act."
