Homeless man stabbed to death amid fight at Upper West Side shelter

A 22-year-old homeless man has lost his life early on Sunday amid a fight with another homeless man at an Upper West Side shelter, police said.

The incident occurred at around 1:50 a.m. when two homeless men entered in an altercation at Basics Housing on West 83rd Street near Colombus Avenue.

The suspect, a 36-year-old was also stabbed during the fight. He was found conscious on the first floor of the shelter when police arrived.

The victim was unconscious on the third floor of the shelter with several stab wounds to his torso. Both men were rushed to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital where the victim died.

The suspect has been listed in stable condition and is currently in police custody. Police didn't release names.
