According to the police, utility workers in New York discovered a decomposing body inside a hole.
The discovery was made around 3 am by a Verizon technical team working in the Columbus Circle area of Manhattan.
When they arrived, the police observed an unidentified adult man, unconscious and insensitive, said the New York City Police Department in a statement.
The body - which has not yet been identified - is being checked by a medical examiner.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
