Middleweight boxer in coma after getting knocked out in ring

Boxer Patrick Day is in a coma after he underwent brain surgery following a vicious knockout at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday night.

Day, 27, is in a medically induced coma after the knockout by Charles Conwell during a fight in the 10th round of the super welterweight in Chicago. Conwell struck Day's head with a right to the ear then a left hook leaving him unconscious in the ring. He left the arena on a stretcher with multiple seizures and was still on a breathing tube after one hour from the punch.

Day is a Freeport, Long Island native who was competing on the undercard of the Oleksander Usyk-Chazz Witherspoon game.

Conwell had knocked him down twice before the 10th-round incident.
