A suspected vehicle thief was shot to death by an officer in Orchards area on Wednesday morning.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy involved in the fatal officer-involved shooting last week as Tom Maxfield, a 20-year veteran in law enforcement.
33-year-old David Villagran, who was suspected of stealing a vehicle Wednesday morning in the Orchards area was shot by Maxfield and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Deputies were reported of a stolen car 4:40 a.m. to the 10900 blocks of Northeast 72nd Street They located the vehicle near Northeast 109th Avenue and 71st Street “occupied by the suspect".
sheriff’s office said. “The suspect rammed the deputy, and an officer-involved shooting ensued.”
the official who suffered minor injuries was taken to the hospital and was released later.
He was placed on leave until officials finish investigating the incident.
