Rapid City news, South Dakota news.

A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 32 years behind bars for randomly murdering a man who was sleeping inside his mobile home.

Judge Jeffrey Viken told the suspect in court that in his 42 years of career, he has rarely seen this kind of violence. He sentenced 19-year-old Emery Arapahoe Tuesday to 22 years for murder and 10 years for the arson.

In October 2017, Arapahoe killed 24-year-old Raymond Waters Jr. as he was sleeping in his mobile home in Allen before setting the trailer on fire. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson as part of a guilty plea deal that has his burglary and larceny charges dropped.

The suspect will spend some time at a mental health treatment facility before going to jail.
