Child remains found in garbage bags; babysitter charged

Autopsy results have confirmed that the remains found inside garbage bags were those of a small child who went missing since last April.

According to police chief Benny Dubose, the autopsy that was conducted on Friday at the state crime lab revealed a badly decomposed body that has a broken rib on one side and cracked ribs on the other in addition to severe burns. The boy is believed to be missing 5-year-old Jakie Toole.

In connection with the case, police have charged 35-year-old Celeste Louise Smith with capital murder and two counts of child neglect. The remains were found next to Smith's basement and she sometimes took care of the dead boy and his brother.

Smith remains in custody without bail.
