A Blue Alert has been issued for an inmate who escaped from jail before killing a prison official in Henning, Tennessee.

Curtis Ray Watson managed to escape from a work detail at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary about 50 miles northeast of Memphis. Authorities said that he fled the scene on a tractor after killing Debra Johnson, 64, who was the administrator for the Department of Corrections. She was found dead in her home located on the prison grounds. Police conducted a count of inmates shortly afterward and found Watson to be missing.

Officials warned the public and asked people to be on the lookout: "If you spot Curtis Watson, do not approach him. Call 911. He is to be considered dangerous," said TBI Director David Rausch.
