An elderly mother hid a mummified infant in her freezer for decades before her son discovered it a few days after her death.
The odd discovery has been made when Adam Smith was cleaning the Saint-Louis apartment where his mother used to live for almost 20 years. The woman toted the box with her through various moves and often warned her son not to open it: "Even as she was on her deathbed, she never told me what was in that box," the surprised Smith told local news outlets: "That's what makes me think maybe she did something to this baby and didn't want to tell anyone because she was afraid she would get in trouble."
The investigation is ongoing by St. Louis authorities to determine the circumstances of the incident.
