US soldier killed in Afghanistan identified

U.S. Department of Defence officials identified the soldier killed Saturday as Army Sgt. Leandro A.s. Jasso from Leavenworth Washington.

The 25-year-old soldier was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan, while supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer said that Jasso was injured by small arms fire and was immediately treated but died in a medical treatment facility.

The soldier was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Joint Base Lewis -McChord, Washington. He enlisted in the Army in 2012 and was on his third deployment to Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. Rob McChrystal said Jasso was a humble professional who will be deeply missed.
