Joe Sestak, a former Pennsylvania Congressman and Naval Admiral, became the last Democrat to join the crowd of presidential candidates in 2020.

In a statement posted on his website Saturday, the 67-year-old said he was standing up to become the commander-in-chief "who serves the American people as he deserves to be served".

"What Americans want most today is someone who is accountable to them, above themselves, above the party, above any particular interest ..." did he declare.

Sestak, who ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 2010 and 2016, admitted he was late.

"The decision was made to delay my departure to find Alex, our daughter, because the brain cancer that she bravely defeated at age four came back last year," he said.
