A 10-year-old girl was killed along with her 34-year-old mother over the weekend in what appears to be an attempted murder-suicide perpetrated by the mother's boyfriend who is still fighting for his life in a New York City hospital.
Young Heaven Ross was strangled and her mother was murdered in their third-floor Belmont apartment near East 181 Street on Saturday. Responding officers also found a 32-year-old man sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He later was identified as Ezort Stevens and is currently hospitalized and listed in a critical condition.
The mother was described as "so full of life" and "always with her children" by neighbors. The motive of the incident is still being investigated.
