California National Guard: Appointment of the 1st woman to lead U.S. Army infantry division.

According to the National Guard of California, the appointment of the first woman to head an infantry division of the US Army.

Brig. General Laura Yeager will take command of the 40th Infantry Division on June 29 at the Joint Force Training Base in Los Alamitos, California.

Yeager currently commands North Joint Command Force, US Northern Command at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Yeager was commissioned in 1986 as a second lieutenant in the reserve officer corps at California State University in Long Beach.

Yeager deployed to Iraq in 2011 as deputy commander of the Cal Guard's 40th Combat Aviation Brigade, then battalion commander and brigade commander.
