Lexington County news, South Carolina news.

The trial of a father accused of killing his five children has started on May 14 and more details about the gruesome case have been revealed.

Timothy Jones Jr., 37, is charged with five counts of murder and facing the death penalty in connection with the deaths of his son Nathan, 6, Merah, 8, Elias, 7, Gabriel, 2, and Abigail, 1-year-old whom prosecutors said he strangled to death by his own hands and using a belt before wrapping the bodies in garbage bags and stuffing them in the back of an SUV he drove for more than week through several states before dumping them in Camden, Alabama.

The father was arrested when police officers noticed the "smell of death" in the car. He confessed to authorities killing the kids before they could "chop him up and feed him to the dogs."
