Phoenix news, Arizona news.

The Arizona man who went on a killing spree that started with murdering his wife, two daughters and ended with shooting a family friend says he had spared a third girl because she "reminded him of himself."

Austin Smith, 30, spent the day drinking at a bar on Thursday before returning home to accuse his wife, Dasia Patterson, of cheating. When the victim denied his allegations, he allegedly opened fire at her, killing her and two of their daughters.

A family friend was also killed when he intervened to save the woman's life.

Dasia Patterson's mother described her daughter as "one of the most humble people in the world," while her daughters were "the most beautiful, sweetest children in the world."

Smith is slated to enter his plea to the four murder counts he faces.
