49 killed, scores injured in one of New Zealand's deadliest terrorist attacks

Christchurch news, New Zealand news.

At least 49 people were pronounced dead while many more are still being treated following the horrific terrorist attacks that occurred at two mosques as worshipers gathered for the Friday prayer.

"One of New Zealand's darkest days," claimed the country's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Four arrests have been made in connection with the deadly shootings.

Authorities said that a heavily armed gunman in military style gear targeted the mosques during prayer. A main suspect has been charged with murder and set to stand before judge on Saturday. It remains unclear if it was the same gunman.

"Many of those who will have been directly affected by this shooting may be migrants to New Zealand. They have chosen to make New Zealand their home, and it is their home," Ardern.
