Raleigh news, Carolina news.

According to the FBI, one of the ten most wanted fugitives in the country, Greg Alyn Carlson was probably shot dead Wednesday during a clash with the authorities.

The shootout occurred Wednesday morning at a hotel in Apex, North Carolina, about 15 km west of Raleigh, when an Apex police officer warned the FBI because the vehicle was carrying plates of South Carolina related to Carlson. An alleged 47-year-old sexual predator wanted for multiple armed assaults in California. The FBI announced in a statement.

The suspect, presumably Carlson, was shot and killed during an altercation with the FBI.

Carlson was placed on the FBI's Top Ten Fugitives List in September 2018. The FBI offered a reward of up to $ 100,000 for the information that led to his arrest.

At one point, the FBI thinks he got a stolen handgun, a rental car and "a lot of money," said Special Agent Scott Garriola, a member of the FBI's Fugitives Working Group in Los Angeles, in a statement.

"This individual is a serious threat to the community," said Garriola. "The investigators also linked him through his DNA to sexual assault dating back to 2003."

The FBI announced that the suspect would be identified after a review of the office of the medical examiner.
