A Fayetteville police officer was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound just two days after a criminal complaint was filed against him.

The SBI said Tuesday that 31-year-old Wade Lane Lee Jr. was found dead Sunday on an interstate median from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Fayetteville Police Department said Monday that it had received a criminal complaint against one of its officers on Friday and said that officer had died Sunday.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s deputy director issued a statement confirming that the officers “death has been determined to have been caused by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

His death is currently being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
