Washington news, Florida news.

A Republican congressman from North Carolina, who has been representing the state for more than two decades, has been placed in a palliative care center, his office said in a statement released on Saturday.

Representative Walter Jones, 75, was placed in a hospice after his condition worsened following a hip fracture on January 14, according to his office.

At approximately the time of his injury, Jones' office stated that he had "undergone surgery" at a hospital in North Carolina and had begun a re-education process following the operation.

In a statement released on Saturday, his office said his family was asking for prayers "and that their privacy be respected during this difficult time."
