Warrant Issued for Indiana man after letting 11-year-old drive to school in stolen rental car.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Round Lake man who authorities say allowed an 11-year-old child to drive to school earlier this month in north suburban Round Lake Park.

School officials said multiple employees witnessed the 11-year-old drive up to school on Jan. 9 and exit the vehicle with a 9-year-old, who had been seated in the rear. The witnesses said a male adult then switched to the driver’s seat and drove away from the area.

“Drop off and pickup are the busiest times of the school day. Numerous children, staff and parents are present in the drop off area. This irresponsible behavior could’ve resulted in any number of tragic scenarios,” a release from the Round Lake Police Department read.

Officers identified the driver as 31-year-old Khafilu Oshodi, who has a suspended driver's license. Police said he is related to the children and is off the radar after causing what could have been a catastrophe outside the elementary school.

The vehicle the child drove is a former rental that was reported stolen Jan. 14. Police have made multiple attempts to contact Oshodi “with no success.”

A warrant has now been issued for his arrest for two counts of child endangerment and driving with a suspended license.

Anyone with information about Oshodi is asked to call Round Lake Park police at (847) 270-9111.
