Teen mother arrested after tossing her newborn into a North Philadelphia dumpster.

A newborn baby was found in a dumpster in North Philadelphia on New Year's Eve, the 15-years-old mother was arrested later after her friend's mother reported her to police.

The teen, who is not being identified by police because of her age, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say a woman approached some police officers on patrol around 10:30 p.m. Monday and told them she had found a baby that had been placed in the dumpster by her daughter's friend. The woman and the baby were taken to a hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead a short time later.

the teen was detained at her mother's house on the 2700 block of Judson Street. Investigators believe that's where the teen gave birth.

The teen and her mother were taken to the Special Victims Unit.

The teen girl was placed under arrest and was then taken to Temple Hospital for precautionary medical treatment.

investigators are planning to run an autopsy test to determine whether the baby was born alive.
